CE Requirements for Nurses in Texas

Requirements specific to Nurses in Texas

Required Courses: 2

  • All Texas nurses are required to complete 20 hours of CE to renew a license
    • Nurses practicing in an emergency room setting must complete at least 2 hours related to Forensic Evidence Collection for Sexual Assault Victims approved by the Texas Department of Health
    • At least 2 hours must be related to Geriatrics
    • At least 2 hours must be related to Nursing Jurisprudence and Ethics every third renewal period
  • APRNs with prescriptive authority must complete an additional 8 hours of CE for a total of 28 hours
    • 5 hours on Pharmacotherapeutics
    • 3 hours on Prescribing Controlled Substances

Texas nursing licenses must be renewed before the last day of the licensee's birth month
